Rollback firmware on Dev (draft) branch on Keenetic Omni KN-1410

Question

Posted

Hi all, I'm a DevOps engineer living in Sweden but a long time ago I bought a router that is listed in the title of the topic and naturally the support period for firmware stable branch has long since expired, and buying a new one and reconfiguring everything will be very difficult and expensive and I decided to switch to Dev branch which saved my router from becoming a useless brick :). as it is used mainly as a kind of VPN gateway for many devices in the house, and the Wireguard protocol was blocked in Russia a long time ago, which prompted me to switch to AmneziaWG (modernised Wireguard using Wireguard ASC), for which I needed to switch to the Dev branch, as the firmware in the stable branch for my device does not support Wireguard ASC. However, after the latest Alpha 9 update (the most up to date at the moment), the Management > System Settings tab (i.e. ip_address/system) broke, when I go to it I just get a blank screen and that's it, which means I won't be able to use my router normally  :( But I got the idea to rollback to Alpha 7, as all the functions and web interface worked fine on it, but I have no idea how to do it. I have access to the web interface (it's basically useless now without the system tab), and access to the router via telnet (no SSH), please help me save my "half-bricked" router

Just wait for 4.3.A.10 (it will be available today in a couple of hours) and then go to command line via telnet, type in

> components list draft

> components commit

and you will install the update.

I suppose the problem with the System Settings page is already resolved in this release.

Well, imagine if I want to install firmware (official, binary file) in the router in the future, but will only have access via SSH or Telnet (OPKG package manager is installed), how can I do it?

You can put it of the USB flash drive, and then issue in the commandline
> copy USBDRIVE:/image.bin ndm:firmware

I understand, but I meant what would be the command for the terminal if I want to install the firmware binary on the router (the router has access to the Internet and everything works properly) directly from the Keenetic remote repository, without a layer in the form of a flash drive or transferring the firmware to the router memory from the PC

This bunch of commands does exactly the same that you described.
