It must be possible to replace your current modem along with an OpenWRT router altogether with a Keenetic router that has a modem inside, like Keenetic Hero DSL, for example. In addition to the WireGuard feature, this will enable the Mesh Wi-Fi system for your office as well.

No, there is no sync between router and extender OS version as of today. You need to go to the KN-1611 interface and update it manually, the same way as you do for the main router KN-1011. The synced update is coming later this year.
