4.2.5 - client device does not fall off the network

Question

Posted

Hello. There is a small problem I am having. It has appeared recently, I have come across it several times on several different devices. Namely: when the device is away from home, when it is not at home at that moment, it does not fall off the device list. It's been a few hours on average and it's still on the list.

When I wake up the wifi of a different device, it falls off the network within a few minutes.

The device that is having problems now was dropped from the network in the morning in a few minutes without any problem. So the problem occurs for a random device at a random time.

The device moved away from home 2 hours ago, but it is still listed as such in the device list.

The "show ip arp" output does not show any beri of the problematic device.

I will attach the device information and selftest file in the next secret message.

When the problem occurs later, check the output of command show associations. Most likely, you will find device there. I encountered this once on my KN-1012.

This issue also occurs on my side. If a device leaves the network but still appears in the device list, it is usually shown as connected via 802.11a or 802.11b. Based on my observations, if the device leaves the house without manually turning off Wi-Fi—just by going out of range—it may still appear in the list. Most likely, the device fails to properly notify the router that it has disconnected from the network.

A possible solution might be for the router to send periodic automatic pings to connected devices, and if no response is received after a certain number of attempts, the device can be considered offline and removed from the list.
